Sustainable Packaging Startup
EcoWrap produces biodegradable packaging materials that decompose within 90 days, minimizing landfill waste.
About the Idea
EcoWraps is a sustainability-driven packaging solution aiming to replace harmful plastic materials with 100% biodegradable, compostable alternatives. Built on a foundation of ecological responsibility and material innovation, EcoWraps addresses the global crisis of plastic waste by using agricultural waste and seaweed polymers to create packaging that decomposes within 60 days.
Plastic waste has been one of the most pressing environmental challenges of the 21st century. Single-use plastics, especially in the food and retail sectors, contribute heavily to landfill waste and marine pollution. Our mission is to provide scalable, eco-conscious packaging alternatives to businesses that care about the planet.
Problem
According to UN reports, over 300 million tons of plastic are produced every year, half of which is single-use. Most of it ends up in oceans and landfills. Traditional recycling methods are insufficient, and many sustainable options are too expensive or logistically complex for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to adopt.
Our Solution
- Biodegradable Material: Packaging made from plant fibers, cassava, sugarcane pulp, and seaweed polymers.
- Zero Toxins: Free from microplastics, BPA, and industrial dyes.
- Flexible Design: Available in wraps, containers, bags, and films with customizable branding.
- Cost-Effective: Competitive pricing achieved via bulk sourcing and local manufacturing hubs.
Market Opportunity
The global sustainable packaging market is expected to reach $530 billion by 2030. SMEs in retail, food & beverage, and cosmetics are actively seeking greener alternatives. EcoWraps provides a plug-and-play packaging solution that businesses can adopt without altering their supply chain logistics.
Current Progress
We’ve developed two prototypes: a compostable pouch for dry goods and a temperature-resistant wrap for frozen items. Initial testing with 10 regional grocery stores has shown promising durability and decomposition results.
What We Need
We are seeking $250,000 in seed funding to set up a small-scale manufacturing plant in Pune, build logistics partnerships, and scale marketing to attract early adopters across India and Southeast Asia.
